Talane’s Blog of the Week, May 22, 2006

One of my girlfriends celebrated her 40th by inviting 18 friends to Ragdale Hall, one of the finest spas in England. It was the first time I’d been to a spa for a whole weekend. What a wonderful, heavenly blissful experience. I was massaged, had a facial, a pedicure, a body scrub/wrap and float. I swam, biked, and spent a lot of time in the steam room, and of course, chatted with all the girls. It was the first time I was away from my toddler for more than one evening—and I must confess it was a welcome break. I felt like an adult, not a mommy.

I’ve always been a big advocate of extreme self-care, but somehow, had missed the spa experience. Now, I can whole-heartedly recommend it. It is a great way to relax completely and feel refreshed and regenerated. Although it was only a three-day weekend, I felt as if I’d had a full week’s holiday. Fabulous! I plan on making this an annual event and am already looking at a full week next year… self-care can be addictive! The experience has motivated me to find a more spa-like gym in the area to join so I can keep up that gloriously decadent feeling of being pampered year ‘round.

When is the last time you had a massage? If you can’t book a weekend away, day spas are great alternatives. One of my clients went to a posh hotel, used their spa services for a massage and could enjoy their other facilities for free.

Enjoy!
