Effortless Selling-
Top Ten Ways to Attract the Clients You Want

April 2005

  1. Eliminate all the petty annoyances that you have been putting up with. Everything you tolerate saps your energy. Most people tolerate 60-100 things in their life. Set aside a blitz day and get rid of them—sew on the buttons, unclog the drain, clean out your desk –then go out and celebrate with a friend.

  2. Get your Clean Sweep score into the 95-100 range. Every point that you get will give you energy and the more energy you have, the more you have to give.

  3. Create a Vacuum. Nature abhors a vacuum. Get rid of everything you haven’t used in the last year to make space for new and better things.

  4. Put in place a daily pleasure. Make sure that every single day you have something to look forward to. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Try a hot bath, a phone call to a friend, time alone.

  5. Strengthen your strengths; delegate the rest. Life is way to short to waste it doing something you aren’t great at. Figure out what your strengths are and focus on improving those. Delegate your weaknesses or set up a system to automate them.

  6. Do a “High-flow” activity regularly. Sales is a demanding, high-energy field. Prevent burnout by consistently scheduling activities that replenish your energy, light you up and keep you excited about life. Watching TV does not count!

  7. Focus on “What is Important About Today?” It is easy to get distracted by urgent, but ultimately unimportant activities. Every day write down the answer to the above question. Then ask, “What is important about the future?” Then write down, “What must get done today?” If it doesn’t make the list, you can probably skip it.

  8. Underpromise and Overdeliver. Add value at every interaction. Every single customer and colleague interaction is an opportunity to add value. Try converting your compliments into acknowledgements.

  9. Invest in yourself. Keep on learning and growing. Nowadays if you aren’t improving your knowledge and skill base, you will be out-of-date in three months. Learning keeps you humble, which is very attractive.

  10. Give 5 thanks a day. Send out 5 hand-written thank you notes or phone calls every day. This is a must for maintaining your best clients and for acknowledging the people who have helped you in any way. The more grateful you are for what you have, the more you will attract.
